Large Kilt Pin - Saltire and Shield

This is a high quality pewter kilt pin in the style of a sword and shield with Thistle top.
 The shield contains St Andrews Cross from the flag of Scotland. 

This kilt pin is both designed and hand made in Ayrshire, Scotland and comes in a dark navy blue and gold presentation box. An ideal gift for any Scotsman who wears a kilt.

The pin measures almost 11cm from end to end.

The time honoured legend is that the Thistles adoption as the national flower of Scotland dates from the Battle of Largs. Legend is that one of the Viking invaders gave away an attempted surprise attack by his cry of agony when he stepped barefoot upon a thistle. Its earliest appearance on silver coinage was in the reign of James III in 1474. The Order of the Thistle was founded in 1540.
